Membership & Mentorship

Mentorship

How the Mentorship Program works:
Mentors & Mentees are paired to go through nursing school together!
As a nursing student mentor, you get the humbling opportunity to be a positive influence by sharing your experience and resources to help the next cohort of nursing students through the program.
You may earn 4 cord points in your first semester of mentoring and 2 cord points every following semester of active mentorship. You may earn 2 additional cord points if you are paired with a second mentee. All mentors who have completed the requirements  will earn a certificate at the end of the semester.

Mentor Requirements:
1. Signed Declaration of Academic Honesty
2. Proof of one in person meeting with mentee(s)
3. Proof of monthly advising

New mentors & mentees can request to be paired by clicking on the link below and filling out the form by September 23.

Membership

Membership FAQ:
1.    What is California Nursing Student Association (CNSA)?

CNSA is the state level organization of National Student Nursing Association (NSNA). As stated on its site, NSNA has a membership of 60,000 nationwide. The National Student Nurses' Association mentors the professional development of future registered nurses and facilitates their entrance into the profession by providing educational resources, leadership opportunities, and career guidance. The San Diego State SNA chapter’s mission statement directly flows from the NSNA purpose.

2.    Why should I be a member of this organization?

For those who dream of expanding their nursing careers, SNA is the club to join, the pre-professional organization for nursing students. As stated earlier approximately 60,000 nursing students in associate degree, diploma, baccalaureate, generic masters, generic doctoral or pre-nursing programs have joined NSNA. By being a part of this organization you can take advantage of the many programs, services, product discounts, and leadership opportunities that NSNA offers. This organization is a fantastic way to grow your professional leadership skills and expand your connections in the field of nursing. While being a part of the club you can take many opportunities to volunteer at health-based events, connect with professors, attend state and national level conferences, and truly begin to make a difference in the field of nursing.

3.    How do I qualify to be a part of this organization at SDSU?

In order to be a member of SNA at SDSU you must either currently be in the SDSU school of nursing (BSN or RN to BSN) or a SDSU pre-nursing major.

4.    How much does it cost to be a part of this organization?

There are a couple options for membership. Each membership is 1 year long UNLESS you get the 2-year membership. If you are a new SNA/NSNA member the one year membership fee is $50. A SNA/NSNA 1 year renewal membership is $45. Finally, a 2-year membership is $95.

5.    How do I become a member?

At both the freshman SDSU School of Nursing orientation and the SDSU School of Nursing New Student orientation there will be an opportunity to sign up. If you want to sign up at a different time please follow this 2 step process:
1. Sign up online at https://nsnamembership.org/. New members can pay the national dues online ($40 for one year and $80 for two year).
2. After completing your online application, forward [email protected] the confirmation email proving your payment, then pay the SDSU chapter dues to us. It will be an additional $10 for a one year membership and $15 for a two year membership. Payments to SDSU SNA can be cash or check made out to Associated Students.

6.    How do I renew an existing membership?

Go to https://nsnamembership.org and under the Renew an Existing Membership header click the Click Here to Renew link. Follow the instructions on screen. You will need to input your membership number and zip code.

After renewing, PLEASE email Hannah Peeler and Irene Ung, Membership Directors with proof of renewal (a screen shot or picture of the email confirmation or screenshot from when you "click here" on Print Replacement Card) so we can update our records!  If our records aren't up to date, you can't earn cord points or volunteer for events.

7.    What if I do not know when my membership expires?

Don’t fret! This is why the amazing Membership Director has kept tract of when all of the memberships expire. Check out the cord point list and you will find your list of cord points as well as the date your membership expires! Click here to see the list!

8.    How do I find my membership ID number?

After you sign up to be a member of SNA/NSNA you will receive a letter in the mail. In the letter you will find important documents related to your membership to NSNA. Try and keep the card that says NSNA member ID on it. In the off chance that you can not find the card and have no idea what your membership number is e-mail [email protected] and ask them for your ID number. The Membership/Mentorship Director DOES NOT have access to your membership number so please do not e-mail them, just go ahead and e-mail NSNA. Also, once you have received your membership ID number I HIGHLY suggest you go to the NSNA membership page at https://nsnamembership.org and print out a replacement card.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact the Membership/Mentorship director at
[email protected] and they will respond as soon as she can!

"Being involved in CNSA has provided me with many opportunities to grow and develop into a more professional future-nurse-leader. The experiences that you are exposed to within the field of nursing, as well as the people you meet, will give you invaluable insight into yourself, as a person, professional and leader."
~ Kristi Miller, former CNSA State President
"No one understood what we were experiencing except for those that had traveled this path. We needed that person on the side lines cheering for us, encouraging us to study one more hour, break often, and breathe with good tidal volume; someone continually pushing us forward toward our goal of changing our life statement from nursing student to nurse."
~ Danielle Gardner, former SDSU CNSA Mentorship Director
