Faculty Advisor - Dr. Kristiana Cullum

It is a privilege to serve as Faculty Advisor for SNA at SDSU.  I truly believe that SDSU has one of the best chapters in the nation and I am always impressed with everything the Board of Directors accomplishes in conjunction with its members.  CNSA/NSNA has been a part of my life since I began nursing school at SDSU in 1998.     I started as a class rep and ended my senior year as President of the SDSU Chapter, as well as, CNSA President for the state.   The entire experience was nothing short of amazing!  I learned leadership skills, how to work in groups, professional development, communication skills, and more.  After graduation, I started my nursing career in the PICU at Rady Children’s Hospital.  I obtained a MSN/NP Certificate from CSU, Long Beach in 2005 and began teaching at SDSU in 2007, while still working at Rady.  In 2015, I completed my doctoral studies at USD and in 2016, I was honored to be asked to join the SNA team as Faculty Advisor.  I, of course,  jumped at the chance!  My SDSU appointment allows me to do research with the pediatric population with diabetes, teach Pediatric Nursing, and work with SNA.  I also still work at Rady per diem, but as an NP on the medical inpatient unit, and am Secretary of my professional organization.  I have the best of every world!  I hope to instill in all of you the same enthusiasm for leadership, and service, roles and organizational involvement that I experienced as an undergrad.  My door is always open...

Faculty Advisor - Lisa Concilio

Nursing has afforded me an opportunity to make a difference in many ways. As a bedside nurse for over 20 years in critical care, I traveled all across the nation for 10 years. After receiving my Masters in Nursing Education in 2010, I decided to both work bedside and teach. I have had the privilege to teach Fundamentals, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Med/Surg, and Critical Care. San Diego State’s Nursing Program offered me the ability to still practice and become an academic nurse educator. As I became more familiar with the curriculum, faculty, staff, and students, it was clear there was something special about SNA. I observed students achieving high-level leadership and management skills as well as accomplishing monumental projects that define their nursing academic journey. There is power in numbers; SNA is amazing and inspires me every semester to be a better nurse, teacher, and supportive presence for all nurses. In the fall of 2018, I was asked to assist Dr. Cullum with SNA and it was one of the best decisions I have made. Exceptional nurse leadership is exampled by Dr. Cullum and SNA members; this inspiration helps all of us grow as life-long learners. In addition to lecturing and advising SNA, and working at the bedside, I am earning a PhD in Nursing. My research focus is examining newly licensed nurses in their first year of hire. I am excited to work with all of you and I love what we do in SNA at SDSU.
